Borussia Dortmund start their Bundesliga meeting with Elversberg at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK with a 3-4-2-1, while the visitors set up in a 4-2-3-1. Niko Kovač and Vincent Wagner have both confirmed their starting XIs for the 14:30 UTC kick-off.

Dortmund are second in the table and one of only four unbeaten teams across Europe's top five leagues this season. Elversberg, in their first-ever Bundesliga campaign, have made a fairytale start and arrive at Signal Iduna Park looking to extend it.

Dortmund's Shape

Kovač's 3-4-2-1 gives Dortmund three central defenders, two wing-backs, a midfield pair, and two attacking midfielders behind a lone striker. The system is designed to control possession and create overloads in wide areas, with the wing-backs pushing high to stretch Elversberg's back four.

Carney Chukwuemeka and Felix Nmecha are among the key players tasked with making that structure work. Chukwuemeka's role in the two behind the striker will be to find pockets between Elversberg's midfield and defence, while Nmecha's energy in the middle two will be needed to counter Elversberg's transitions.

Daniel Svensson is also named in the Dortmund XI, likely operating as a left wing-back or in the back three. His versatility allows Kovač to shift between a back three and a back four without a substitution.

Elversberg's Response

Wagner's 4-2-3-1 is a more conventional shape, with two holding midfielders screening the back four and three attackers supporting a central striker. Against a team of Dortmund's quality, the two in midfield will need to stay compact and deny space between the lines.

David Mokwa and Felix Keidel are the Elversberg players to watch. Mokwa's role in the attacking midfield trio will be to link play and carry the ball forward when Elversberg break, while Keidel's positioning in the double pivot will determine how well they protect the defence.

Elversberg have not faced a side of Dortmund's calibre in the Bundesliga before, but their start to the season suggests they will not sit deep without a plan. The 4-2-3-1 gives them a platform to press in midfield and attack through the channels.

What the Selections Say

Dortmund's 3-4-2-1 is an attacking choice at home. Kovač has picked a front three that can rotate and a midfield that can dominate the ball. The risk is in the space behind the wing-backs if Elversberg can turn possession over quickly.

Elversberg's 4-2-3-1 is a balanced response. Wagner has not matched Dortmund's back three with a back three of his own; instead, he has trusted his midfield to screen and his attackers to counter. The two holding players will be busy.

The match is Dortmund's to lose on paper, but Elversberg's unbeaten start to life in the top flight means the visitors will arrive with belief. Kick-off is at 14:30 UTC.
