Thomasson's second-half strike earns Rennes narrow win over Marseille

Rennes edged past Marseille 1-0 at Roazhon Park on Sunday, with Adrien Thomasson's right-footed finish early in the second half proving the difference in a contest the hosts controlled far more than the scoreline suggests. The midfielder's 52nd-minute strike, worth 0.62 xG, capped a dominant second-half display in which Rennes generated 1.48 xG to Marseille's 0.56 and outshot the visitors 13-6 after the break.

The opening 45 minutes offered little to separate the sides. Possession was virtually split (48-52 in Marseille's favour) and expected goals nearly identical — 0.38 for Rennes, 0.39 for Marseille.
