Osimhen Strikes Twice as Galatasaray Overwhelm Fenerbahçe

Victor Osimhen scored twice inside the opening 45 minutes as Galatasaray took a 2-0 lead over Fenerbahçe into half-time at RAMS Park. The Nigerian forward struck on 29 minutes from open play, finishing left-footed from a Barış Alper Yılmaz assist, before doubling the advantage in first-half stoppage time with a header from a Davinson Sánchez set-piece delivery.

The scoreline reflects a first half in which Galatasaray produced 11 shots to Fenerbahçe's zero. Six of those were on target. The hosts generated 0.99 expected goals — 0.73 from open play and 0.26 from set pieces — while Fenerbahçe registered 0.00 xG across the opening period. Galatasaray also created the half's only big chance.

Possession and Territory

Galatasaray held 68% of the ball and completed 198 passes at 89% accuracy. Fenerbahçe, by contrast, completed 70 passes at 69%. The territorial split was equally pronounced: Galatasaray played 74 passes in the opposition half to Fenerbahçe's 26, and registered 19 touches in the box compared to three for the visitors.

Both sides lined up in a 4-2-3-1. The shape was identical on paper; the execution was not. Galatasaray's front four found space between Fenerbahçe's midfield and defensive lines repeatedly, while Fenerbahçe's attacking players were isolated whenever they won possession. The visitors managed just one corner and did not force a single save from the Galatasaray goalkeeper.

Osimhen's individual numbers tell the story of the half. He scored twice from 0.71 xG, converting both of his clearest opportunities. Barış Alper Yılmaz, who assisted the opener, contributed 0.15 xG himself. Aleksey Batrakov registered 0.06 xG for the visitors — the only Fenerbahçe player to record a meaningful attacking contribution in the first half.

Fenerbahçe's Disciplinary Problems

Fenerbahçe committed 10 fouls in the first half and received three yellow cards. Galatasaray committed four fouls and received one booking. The visitors won 29 duels to Galatasaray's 22, but that statistic flatters them: many of those duels came in areas where Galatasaray had already progressed the ball and Fenerbahçe were forced into recovery challenges.

The pattern of the half was set early. Galatasaray circulated possession, drew Fenerbahçe's midfield forward, then played through or over the press into the space behind. Osimhen's movement in the box — particularly for the second goal, where he peeled away from his marker to meet Sánchez's delivery — exposed Fenerbahçe's inability to track runners in the penalty area.

Fenerbahçe's attacking threat was almost non-existent. Zero shots, zero xG, three touches in the box. Their best moments came from set-piece situations, but even those produced nothing: one corner, no shots from dead-ball scenarios. The visitors will need a significant tactical reset at half-time to avoid this becoming a heavier defeat.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, will feel they should be further ahead. Eleven shots and 0.99 xG for a two-goal lead suggests they have been efficient rather than wasteful, but the volume of possession and territory they have enjoyed points to a game they are controlling completely. Osimhen's brace has been the difference on the scoreboard; the collective performance has been the difference everywhere else.
