Yellow and black soccer ball — Club Brugge Open Champions League Campaign Against Lens at Jan Breydelstadion

Club Brugge and Lens have confirmed their starting XIs for tonight's Champions League meeting at the Jan Breydelstadion, and the team sheets carry one clear story: Yannick Cahuzac has responded to defeat on matchday two by changing three of his Lens starters.

Michal Skoras, Ruben Aguilar and Thorgan Hazard come into the Lens XI. Kyllian Antonio, Florian Thauvin and Ismaelo Ganiou drop out. That is not rotation for its own sake — it is a manager reacting to a losing result by altering three positions at once, and it hands Hazard a direct route back into the starting picture for a European away night.

Two Shapes, One Midfield Question

Club Brugge line up in a 4-3-3 under Ivan Leko. Lens set up in a 3-4-2-1 under Cahuzac. The structural mismatch is the first thing to watch: Brugge's front three against a back three, and Lens's two attacking midfielders looking for the pockets between Brugge's midfield line and defence.

With Lens fielding a back three, the wide areas become the pressure point. Brugge's full-backs will be asked to push high and pin Lens's wing-backs, while Lens will look to spring forward in the channels when Brugge's midfield turns the ball over. The three changes suggest Cahuzac wants fresher legs in exactly those transition moments.

The Names on the Sheet

Amadou Haidara, Brandon Mechele, Carlos Forbs, Franjo Ivanović and Freddie Potts are the players to track across both XIs. Mechele anchors the Brugge back line in the 4-3-3. Haidara gives Brugge a midfield runner who can carry through Lens's two-man central pairing. Forbs and Ivanović provide the attacking width and central presence in Leko's front line. Potts is the Lens name worth watching as the away side looks to connect its back three to its front three.

For Lens, the inclusion of Hazard alongside Skoras and Aguilar signals a more experienced, more direct edge than the group that lost on matchday two. Thauvin's absence from the XI removes a known creative outlet; Hazard's return to the starting lineup is the headline selection call on the away side.

What Kick-Off Will Test

No in-play attacking totals have been produced yet, so the pre-match read is about structure and selection rather than form numbers. Brugge at home in a 4-3-3 against a Lens 3-4-2-1 is a shape duel: Brugge will try to overload the wide channels and force Lens's wing-backs deep, while Lens will try to keep the game compact in the middle and break through the two No. 10s.

The three Lens changes are the decisive detail. Cahuzac has not tweaked — he has reshaped his starting group after a defeat. Whether that produces a more resilient away performance at the Jan Breydelstadion is the question the first 20 minutes will answer.
