HALF TIME
0-0
Bodø/Glimt vs Borussia Dortmund: Champions League Preview from Aspmyra

Bodø/Glimt and Borussia Dortmund go into the interval level at 0-0 at Aspmyra Stadion, but the first half belonged to the hosts. The Norwegian side held 60% of the ball, out-shot Dortmund 5-1 and built a 0.23-0.01 expected-goals edge across the opening 45 minutes. One shot on target to nil. One big chance to nil. The scoreline is the only column Dortmund are level in.

The shape of the half

Bodø/Glimt set up in a 4-3-3 and used it to pin Dortmund back rather than sit off them. The hosts completed 302 passes at 88% accuracy and pushed 157 of them into Dortmund's half, against 190 passes at 83% and 100 in the opposition half for the visitors. Dortmund's 3-4-2-1 gave them three centre-backs against Bodø/Glimt's front three, but the extra body at the back did not translate into control: the away side managed a single shot in the entire half and generated 0.01 xG, all of it from open play.

Bodø/Glimt's territorial grip showed up in the duels too. They won 31 of the 49 contested, a 63% share, and committed four fouls to Dortmund's six. The two yellow cards of the half both went to Dortmund, a sign of a side chasing the ball and arriving late to it.

Where the chances came from

Jens Petter Hauge was the most dangerous home player of the half, carrying 0.09 xG on his own. Patrick Berg added 0.08 and Sondre Brunstad Fet 0.06, meaning Bodø/Glimt's midfield and wide runners, not just their centre-forward, were the ones getting into shooting positions. Jostein Gundersen and Fredrik André Bjørkan were also involved in the attacking phases without registering a shot of note.

The chance creation split is telling. Bodø/Glimt's 0.23 xG breaks down as 0.18 from open play and 0.05 from set pieces, so the threat was built in open play rather than from dead balls. Dortmund's 0.01 xG came entirely from open play, with nothing at all from set pieces. Corners ran 2-1 to Dortmund, but that is the only attacking metric the visitors led, and it produced no shots on target.

Box touches were nearly even at 8-7 in Bodø/Glimt's favour, which is the one number that flatters Dortmund. They got into the area about as often as the hosts but did nothing with those entries: no shots on target, no big chances, no xG of consequence.

What the second half needs

Dortmund cannot be this passive for another 45 minutes and expect to leave Aspmyra with anything. A single shot and 0.01 xG is not a platform; it is a warning. The 3-4-2-1 is giving them a spare defender they are not using to progress the ball, and their 83% pass accuracy is the lowest of the two sides.

For Bodø/Glimt, the task is conversion. They have the possession, the shot volume, the duel wins and the only big chance of the match, and they have kept Dortmund's attack to almost nothing. The risk is that a half this dominant at 0-0 becomes a regret if Dortmund's front line finds one transition. Bodø/Glimt's 4-3-3 has been the better structure; the scoreboard just has not caught up yet.
