Feyenoord 3-2 Como: Two Minutes and a Near Post Decide It

Feyenoord's first Champions League win of the campaign turned on a two-minute first-half swing and a near-post concession, not on territorial control.

Soccer field — Feyenoord 3-2 Como: Two Minutes and a Near Post Decide It

Feyenoord beat Como 3-2 at Stadion Feijenoord on 14 October 2026, their first win of this Champions League campaign. Both sides now sit on three points from a 1-0-1 record.

Como led after 18 minutes. Assane Diao got on the end of a long ball from Jacobo Ramon, shrugged off Javi Lopez and curled past Tjark Ernst. Two minutes later, Luciano Valente passed to Gjivai Zechiel, who received on the swivel and struck from the edge of the box. The lead lasted two minutes.

The numbers do not describe a dominant winner

Feyenoord had 48 per cent of the ball and 13 shots to Como's 11. Both sides managed five on target. Como created three big chances; Feyenoord created none. Como's expected goals were 1.24 against Feyenoord's 0.54. By the raw measures of chance quality, the away side had the better of it.

Feyenoord's xG here was 0.54 against an average of 2.2 across their earlier 2026/27 matches in all competitions. Their open-play xG was 0.47 against an average of 1.57. Their touches in the opposition box were 20.0 against an average of 33.0. They scored 2.46 goals more than their xG in this match, against an average of 0.0 across those earlier games.

The goals came from a swivel-and-strike from the edge of the box, a near-post finish, and an own goal.

Before half-time, Robert Sanchez denied Read and then kept out Javi Lopez's close-range header. Seven minutes after the restart, Anis Hadj Moussa beat Sanchez at his near post. In the 81st minute, Sanchez put through his own goal, with Hadj Moussa playing a key role. Anastasios Douvikas scored for Como in the 90th+3rd minute.

What actually decided it

What the numbers do support is that Feyenoord's win was not built on sustained pressure. Their touches in the box and their xG were both well below their earlier-season averages.

They had won their opening Champions League game against RB Leipzig and were winless in their last two Serie A games before this match. Moise Kean was injured, Maxence Caqueret was not on their UEFA list, and Cesc Fabregas opted for Nico Paz as a False 9 with Bruno Kaiki in a more advanced role.

Feyenoord, too, were without Goncalo Borges, Shaqueel van Persie, Bart Nieuwkoop, Reiss Nelson, Gijs Smal, Jakub Moder, Jordan Bos and Thomas Beelen, with Tsuyoshi Watanabe only fit for the bench. Their summer business brought in Charles Vanhoutte, Mika Mármol, Tjark Ernst, Nacho Ferri and Reiss Nelson.

The result leaves both sides on three points.
