Beşiktaş and Gençlerbirliği have confirmed their starting XIs for a Super Lig round 11 meeting at Tüpraş Stadyumu. Vincenzo Italiano’s Beşiktaş use a 4-1-4-1; Bernd Storck’s Gençlerbirliği answer with a 4-2-3-1.

The shapes put the first focus on the midfield contest. Beşiktaş have one player positioned as the deepest midfielder behind a line of four, with a lone forward ahead. Gençlerbirliği have two deeper midfielders supporting a three-player line behind their striker. That gives the visitors a pair at the base of midfield against Beşiktaş’s single anchor, while the home side have four players across the next line to connect the midfield and attack.

Where the lineups point

For Beşiktaş, the 4-1-4-1 makes the link between that single holding position and the four ahead especially important. The team will need to keep those lines connected as it moves forward, while the front player gives the midfield a clear target. The shape also leaves the midfield four with responsibilities both in support of the attack and in protecting the space around the lone midfielder.

Gençlerbirliği’s 4-2-3-1 offers a different starting balance. Two players sit behind the attacking three, with a single striker at the top. That arrangement gives Storck’s side a central pair to work through and three players positioned to support the forward. How effectively they can bring those lines together will shape their threat at the visitors’ end.

The formations describe the teams’ starting arrangements, not every movement they will make once the match begins. The key early test is whether Beşiktaş can use their four-player midfield line to progress the ball while accounting for Gençlerbirliği’s two deeper midfielders. At the other end, the visitors’ attacking three must connect with their striker without leaving their midfield pair isolated.

The match-day stakes

Beşiktaş have home advantage in Istanbul, where the confirmed setup gives Italiano one central midfielder behind a four-player line. Gençlerbirliği arrive with a two-player base and a three-player support line behind their striker. Those are the clearest differences in the starting plans, and they will be visible from the opening exchanges.

Gençlerbirliği enter the fixture as outsiders: pre-match betting odds cited an 8% chance of an away win. That expectation raises the importance of their ability to turn the 4-2-3-1 into a threat rather than simply a defensive arrangement. Beşiktaş, meanwhile, must make their home control count by moving the ball through the midfield and supplying the forward line.

Kick-off at Tüpraş Stadyumu will show which side settles into its intended structure first. The confirmed starting shapes are Beşiktaş’s 4-1-4-1 and Gençlerbirliği’s 4-2-3-1.
