Donald Trump: The United States is currently engaged in diplomatic talks with Iran. Our verdict: True.

Donald Trump made the claim during a press gaggle before a Marine One departure on 6 November 2026, with reporting of his remarks on 7 November 2026.
Our verdict
True
The claim is accurate. In early November 2026, the United States and Iran were engaged in indirect diplomatic talks through regional mediators, and Donald Trump publicly said the two countries were talking.
What we found
We rated this claim true. Two things had to hold up: that diplomatic talks were actually happening, and that Trump said so on the date in question. Both did. CBS News reported on 2–3 November 2026 that Qatari mediators were leading indirect talks between the United States and Iran, and that Trump said a deal 'could happen.' IranWire reported on 6 November 2026 that Iranian and U.S. officials were in separate diplomatic contacts with regional intermediaries, including Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and that Iran had sent a nuclear proposal to Washington via Qatar. Houseofsaud reported on 5 November 2026 that Qatar and Pakistan were mediating an interim deal and that Iranian officials acknowledged indirect talks were underway. The Tehran Times reported on 7 November 2026 that Iran's foreign minister was holding talks with regional counterparts. On the statement itself, NewsMobile and Al Jazeera both reported on 7 November 2026 that Trump said the United States was talking to Iran and had made 'a lot of progress.' A transcript of Trump's remarks from 6 November 2026 carries a substantially identical message. The talks were indirect, run through mediators, not face-to-face between Washington and Tehran.
