Trump set a 4 July 2026 deadline on 7 May; the EU finalised the deal in June.

What we found

Trump said he had given von der Leyen until America's 250th birthday, after which EU tariffs would jump. Our first version wrongly called this fabricated because it searched only 2024-25 records.
