“Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an energy ceasefire.” — Donald Trump. Our verdict: Unverified.

Donald Trump made the claim in an interview broadcast by CNN on 12 October 2026, and also posted it on Truth Social.
Our verdict
Unverified
Donald Trump did say that Russia and Ukraine had agreed an energy ceasefire, and that is well documented. But we could not find enough public evidence to confirm that such a ceasefire is actually in place, so the claim is unverifiable.
Know something that settles it? Send us evidenceWhat we found
Trump's statement itself is not in doubt. CNN's transcript of the interview, along with reports from NPR, the BBC, Axios and CNBC, all record him saying that Russia and Ukraine had agreed an energy ceasefire. The harder question is whether the agreement exists. On that, the picture is unclear. Al Jazeera reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had violated the truce Trump announced, and The Guardian reported Russian attacks on multiple power plants after Trump's claim. We found no statement from Russian or Ukrainian officials, and no document, confirming that a ceasefire had been signed or was being observed. Because the claim depends on the ceasefire being real, not just on Trump saying it, we could not reach a firm verdict either way.
