The claim

“Iran currently possesses no military, navy, air force, or anti-aircraft capabilities.”

Donald TrumpNews reportOctober 9, 2026Read the original

Donald Trump made the claim on 9 October 2026, in a speech at the White House reported by The Jerusalem Post.

Our verdict

False

The claim is false. Iran has an active military, including a navy with over 145 combat vessels, an air force with 164 combat aircraft, and a working surface-to-air missile network.

What we found

Donald Trump said Iran has no military, navy, air force or anti-aircraft capabilities. Every part of that is contradicted by the available evidence. Reporting from SlashGear in March 2026 says Iran's navy has more than 145 combat vessels, and Wikipedia's page on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy describes a fleet of over 126 surface vessels. MiGFlug lists the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force as an active branch with 164 combat aircraft. Military Watch Magazine reports that Iran runs an active surface-to-air missile network, including the S-300, Bavar 373 and Khordad 15 systems. The Institute for the Study of War and Critical Threats both describe Iranian naval, missile and drone activity in early 2026. Taken together, these sources show each element of the claim is wrong.

The numbers

Iranian military assets in 2026

Available evidence confirms Iran possesses hundreds of combat vessels and aircraft, contradicting the claim that it has no military capabilities.
