Donald Trump made the claim on 11 October 2026, in remarks about a Supreme Court tariff ruling, as recorded in a Rev transcript.

Our verdict

Unverified

We could not confirm or refute this claim. The Dow Jones Industrial Average clearly passed 50,000, but we could not find a dated source showing the S&P 500 had reached 7,000 by the time the claim was made.

What we found

Donald Trump said the Dow Jones Industrial Average had reached 50,000 and the S&P 500 had reached 7,000. The first part checks out. Yahoo Finance, Investing.com and MarketWatch all show the Dow closed at 51,654.95 on 9 October 2026, two days before he spoke. The second part is where we get stuck. MarketWatch's S&P 500 page says the index is trading at 7,811.54, which is above 7,000, but the page carries no date. Without a date, we cannot tell whether that figure was true on or before 11 October 2026, when the claim was made. No other source we found gives a dated S&P 500 level for that period. Because one half of the claim is well supported and the other half rests on an undated figure, we cannot say the claim as a whole is true or false. We could not find enough public evidence to confirm or refute it.
