Trabzonspor beat Beşiktaş 2–0 at Papara Park on Sunday, scoring once in each half while conceding the ball for almost the entire afternoon. Ozan Tufan struck in the 21st minute and Mohamed Salah finished a fast break in the 71st, and that was the whole of the scoreline — a result built on chance quality rather than control.
The shape of the game was set early. Trabzonspor lined up in a 4-2-3-1, Beşiktaş in a 4-1-4-1, and the visitors' single pivot plus two advanced lines let them circulate possession through midfield without ever quite breaking the last line. Beşiktaş finished with 62% of the ball, 409 accurate passes to Trabzonspor's 221, and 239 passes in the opposition half against 95. They also out-shot the hosts 19–13 and out-touched them in the box 32–18. None of it produced a goal.
Match stats
Trabzonspor created the better chances: 2.35 xG to 1.19.
Territory without a finish
Beşiktaş's problem was not volume but location and timing. Their 19 shots yielded 1.19 expected goals, and only 1.12 of that came from open play — 0.07 from set pieces. Trabzonspor, by contrast, generated 2.35 xG from just 13 shots, all of it open play, and put 8 of those 13 on target. The hosts also created six big chances to Beşiktaş's one. That is the match in a single line: the team with less of the ball had the better of the moments that decide games.
Ozan Tufan's opener came from regular play, a left-footed strike worth 0.20 xG, and it arrived against the run of possession. It did not require a deflection or a scramble. It required Trabzonspor to be in the right place when Beşiktaş's midfield line was stretched, and they were.
Expected goals (xG) by half
Beşiktaş's xG went from 0.83 in the first half to 0.37 in the second.
Figures in xG
Salah's fast break kills it
The second goal is the one that explains the result. In the 71st minute, Trabzonspor broke at speed, Franculino supplied the assist, and Mohamed Salah finished left-footed from a chance rated 0.58 xG — the single best opportunity of the match. Salah's afternoon finished with one goal from 0.85 xG, and it came in the phase when Beşiktaş were pushing hardest for an equaliser. The visitors had 66% of second-half possession and 121 passes in the opposition half after the break, but they also collected three of their four yellow cards in that period and managed just 0.37 xG across the half. Trabzonspor's second-half xG was 1.31.
Ernest Muçi was Beşiktaş's most persistent threat and finished with 0.59 xG without a goal. Aral Şimşir registered 0.06 xG. Salih Özcan did not register an xG value at all. The burden of Beşiktaş's attacking play fell on players who got into good positions and did not convert them, while Trabzonspor's decisive men — Tufan and Salah — did.

What the numbers leave behind
Beşiktaş won 46 duels to Trabzonspor's 45, took six corners to four, and committed 17 fouls to 11. They were not outfought in the aggregate. They were outscored in the only currency that matters, and the xG split — 2.35 to 1.19 — says the scoreline was not a smash-and-grab. Trabzonspor created the better chances and took them. Beşiktaş created more chances and took none.
The result leaves Trabzonspor with a home win built on efficiency rather than dominance, and Beşiktaş with a familiar complaint: possession, shots and box entries that did not become goals. Salah's 71st-minute finish, from the best chance of the game, is the moment that separates the two teams on the day.
