Sevilla's 3-3 at Levante: chances up, points still short
Sevilla drew 3-3 at Levante, generating far more xG than in earlier 2026/2027 matches but still dropping two points in a chaotic finish.

Sevilla left the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia with a 3-3 draw against Levante on 12 October 2026, a result that captures the central tension of their season so far: the attacking output is rising, but the points return is not keeping pace.
Robbie Ure put Sevilla ahead in the 13th minute, and Félix Correia made it 2-0 in the 54th. Levante responded through Iván Romero in the 57th, and the match turned into a stoppage-time sequence: Adrián De La Fuente equalised, Isaac Romero restored Sevilla's lead, and Ifeanyi Ndukwe levelled again.
The numbers behind the scoreline
The raw figures show a Sevilla side that created more than enough to win. They registered 2.53 expected goals against Levante's 1.95, with 2.47 of their xG coming from open play. They had 18 shots to Levante's 20, but five big chances to three. Levante held 57 per cent possession and managed eight shots on target to Sevilla's five, yet the chance quality leaned Sevilla's way.
That attacking volume stands out against Sevilla's earlier 2026/2027 matches. Across those earlier fixtures in all competitions, they averaged 0.7 xG, with 0.44 from open play. In this match alone they posted 2.53 and 2.47. Their corner count went the other way: two here against an average of 3.8 earlier in the campaign.
One match is not a trend, and the sample is small. But the gap between the process and the result is the story. Sevilla scored three away from home and still could not win.
The Caparrós benchmark and the turnover question
The wider context is Sevilla's league record under Luis García in 2026/2027: 4W 1D 2L, 1.86 points per game over seven games. That is weaker than the 3W 1D 0L, 2.5 points per game Sevilla managed under Joaquín Caparrós in 2017/2018 over four games.
The squad turnover since the summer offers part of the explanation. Sevilla have brought in Youssouf Fofana, Giorgi Kochorashvili, Arouna Sangante, Fran González, Lucas Stassin and Robbie Ure, while Djibril Sow, Alex Costa, Rafa Mir, Akor Adams, Oso and Juanlu Sánchez have departed. That is substantial change in a single window, and it helps explain why the balance of that earlier period has not returned.
Ure's contribution is exactly the kind of return the recruitment needs to produce. He scored his first LaLiga goal in the 13th minute and set up another, having signed from Swedish side Sirius in the summer for £5.5m. His header set up Correia to double Sevilla's lead in the 54th minute.
The red card and the dropped points
Whether that is the decisive explanation for the dropped points, or simply the last act in a game Sevilla should have closed out earlier, is a fair question.
For now, the takeaway is narrow but real. Sevilla are creating at a level their earlier season did not suggest, and they are still not converting that process into the points their 2017/2018 benchmark implies they should. The next few matches will show whether this was the start of something or just a very entertaining outlier.
