A Nigerian Air Force ATR 42 crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on October 5 while flying from Benin City to Lagos, killing all 25 people aboard, the Air Force said. The aircraft was identified as NAF 931.

The Air Force listed five crew members and 20 passengers among the dead and said no survivors were found. The crash site is near a naval base. The cause has not been established, and an investigation has been directed.

The confirmed figure of 25 differs from the first public accounting. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said on Monday that 32 people had died; by Tuesday, the Air Force had clarified the toll as 25. That gap is not evidence of a cover-up, and nothing in the record explains it. It is, however, a reminder that casualty numbers in the hours after a crash are provisional.

President Bola Tinubu declared three days of national mourning and ordered an investigation. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, is identified in reporting on the crash.

The loss of 25 people, including military personnel, has been described as Nigeria's deadliest military-aircraft crash since 1992. That comparison rests on the reported toll and the aircraft's military status; it is a statement about scale, not about cause.

What remains open is the central question: why the aircraft went down. No source in the record attributes the crash to mechanical failure, weather, pilot error, or hostile action. Until then, the confirmed facts are the aircraft, the route, the location, the 25 dead, and the inquiry now underway.
