Los Angeles FC and LA Galaxy have confirmed their starting lineups for tonight's Major League Soccer meeting at BMO Stadium. The hosts line up in a 4-2-3-1. The Galaxy set up in a 4-3-3.

LAFC enter as the clear favourite, priced at a 61% winning probability by the odds the day before kickoff. They sit sixth in the Western Conference. El Tráfico does not need a table to sell itself, but the standings give the home side something concrete to protect.

LAFC's 4-2-3-1: Bouanga Leads the Line

Steve Cherundolo's shape puts Denis Bouanga at the point of the attack. The 4-2-3-1 gives LAFC a single central striker with three attacking midfielders underneath, and Bouanga is the player the Galaxy back line has to account for first.

Aaron Long anchors the defence in front of the home crowd. Long's presence at centre-back matters in a derby where the first duel often sets the tone. Erik Thommy is also in the XI, giving LAFC another route through the middle third.

The double pivot behind the attacking three is the structural hinge. In a 4-2-3-1, those two midfielders have to screen the back four and still feed the line of three. Against a Galaxy side playing three central midfielders, that pair will be outnumbered in the middle unless the attacking midfielders drop in.

Galaxy's 4-3-3: Three in Midfield, Armindo Sieb Starts

The Galaxy answer with a 4-3-3. Three central midfielders against LAFC's two is the clearest numerical question of the night. If the Galaxy can circulate the ball through that extra body, they can pull LAFC's attacking three into defensive work and isolate the back four.

Armindo Sieb starts in the front three. Emiro Garcés is also in the confirmed XI. The 4-3-3 asks the wide forwards to hold width and stretch LAFC's full-backs, which in turn opens the half-spaces for the advanced central midfielder.

The risk is on the flanks. A 4-3-3 that pushes both full-backs high leaves the centre-backs exposed to exactly the kind of transition Bouanga thrives on. The Galaxy's midfield three has to decide, every time possession turns over, whether to press or retreat.

What the Selections Set Up

Both teams have named their strongest available shapes. LAFC's 4-2-3-1 against the Galaxy's 4-3-3 is a matchup of overloads: the Galaxy's three against LAFC's two in central midfield, and LAFC's three attacking midfielders against the Galaxy's back four.

Bouanga, Long and Thommy carry the home side's structure. Sieb and Garcés carry the away side's. The odds make LAFC favourite at 61%, and the sixth-place Western Conference position gives them a reason to take the game to the Galaxy early.

Kick-off at BMO Stadium settles the rest. The lineups are in. The shapes are set. El Tráfico starts now.
