Juventus vs Lazio: Tactical Questions Before Serie A Clash at Allianz Stadium

Lazio arrive at the Allianz Stadium without Matteo Cancellieri. The winger failed to recover in time for Sunday's Serie A meeting with Juventus, joining an absent trio already ruled out. The blow lands on a Biancocelesti squad preparing for what the weekend schedule frames as its biggest contest.

Both starting XIs are now confirmed. Juventus set up in a 3-4-2-1. Lazio line up in a 4-3-3.

Juventus: Back Three, Two Behind the Striker

Juventus open with a three-man defensive line and a four-man midfield band, with two attacking midfielders operating behind a single centre-forward. Gleison Bremer anchors the back three. Douglas Luiz sits in the midfield four. The shape asks the wing-backs to supply width while the two players behind the striker find pockets between Lazio's midfield and defence.

Guglielmo Vicario starts in goal.

Lazio: 4-3-3 Without Cancellieri

Lazio's 4-3-3 loses Cancellieri's width on the wing. The front three must now be rebuilt from the available squad, with the midfield trio shielding a back four in front of Christos Mandas. Davide Frattesi is the named starter in that midfield three.

Mandas starts in goal for the visitors.

What the Selections Set Up

The structural question is how Lazio's front three functions without Cancellieri against Juventus's back three. Juventus's 3-4-2-1 can match Lazio's midfield three with its central four, leaving the wide areas for the wing-backs. Lazio's 4-3-3 needs its wide forwards to pin those wing-backs back or the visitors will defend a five-man Juventus attack.

Bremer's presence in the Juventus back three gives the hosts a physical reference against Lazio's centre-forward. Douglas Luiz in the midfield four gives Juventus a passing option through the middle. Frattesi's role in Lazio's midfield three will determine whether the visitors can progress the ball through Juventus's central block or must go wide.

Kick-off at the Allianz Stadium has not produced in-play attacking totals. The confirmed lineups are the story: Juventus in a 3-4-2-1, Lazio in a 4-3-3, and Cancellieri absent for the visitors.
