Getafe and Sevilla have confirmed their starting XIs for Sunday afternoon's LaLiga fixture at the Estadio Coliseum, and both managers have landed on the same shape: a 4-4-2. Sevilla arrive sixth in the table on 17 points from 10 matches, chasing a third straight win in all competitions. Getafe sit below them and need a result to steady a difficult start.

Two Banks of Four, Two Very Different Problems

Getafe's 4-4-2 sets up to compress the middle and force Sevilla wide. The front two will look to screen the visitors' central midfielders, while the wide players drop into a flat four without the ball. It is a shape built for denying space between the lines, and it puts the onus on Sevilla's full-backs to progress the ball.

Sevilla match the 4-4-2 but with different intentions. Their midfield four will look to play through Getafe's first line rather than around it, and the front two will split to occupy the centre-backs. The shape is identical on paper; the mechanics are not. Sevilla want the ball, Getafe want to make them earn every pass.

The Wide Areas Will Decide This

With both teams in a 4-4-2, the flanks become the natural release valve. Getafe's wide midfielders must track Sevilla's full-backs without leaving the centre-backs exposed. Sevilla's wide players must pin Getafe's full-backs deep, or the home side will happily defend in a compact block and counter through the front two.

Andrés García and Daniel Carvajal are the names to watch in those wide zones. García's ability to carry the ball out of pressure will determine whether Getafe can turn defence into attack quickly. Carvajal's positioning will shape how often Sevilla can overload the touchline and deliver into the box.

What the Selections Say

David Soria starts in goal for Getafe, a reminder that the home side's defensive structure begins with a goalkeeper comfortable playing short under pressure. Chidera Ejuke gives Sevilla a direct wide option, someone who can beat a full-back one-on-one and force Getafe's midfield to collapse toward the ball.

Andrés Lopez starts for Sevilla, adding legs in midfield. The 4-4-2 only works if the central pair cover ground relentlessly, and Lopez's inclusion suggests Sevilla expect a scrappy, broken game rather than a controlled possession exercise.

Sevilla's form against sides beneath them in the table has been exemplary this season, and they will relish a trip to a struggling Getafe. But the Coliseum has never been an easy away day, and a flat 4-4-2 from the hosts is designed to make this exactly that. Kick-off is at 14:00 local time.
