Soccer field — Fenerbahçe Host Göztepe With Title Pressure Mounting and a Top-Four Threat in Town

Fenerbahçe open Round 10 of the Super Lig at home to Göztepe with Ederson in the starting XI, and the shape sheet already tells you where the game will be played. The hosts line up in a 4-2-3-1. Göztepe answer with a 3-4-1-2. Kick-off at Chobani Stadyumu Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Spor Kompleksi is set for 4:00 PM UTC.

The confirmed teams put the emphasis on Fenerbahçe's midfield control and Göztepe's two-striker route out. Ederson's inclusion gives the home side a recognised reference at the base of the attack, with Irfan Kahveci and Alexis Antunes also named in the XI. Arda Kurtulan and Arda Özcimen are in the Göztepe selection, and both will be asked to make the 3-4-1-2 hold its width without the ball and break quickly with it.

What the shapes say

Fenerbahçe's 4-2-3-1 is the more familiar structure: two holding midfielders screening a back four, three attacking midfielders behind a single centre-forward. Against a 3-4-1-2, that usually means the home side can find overloads in the half-spaces if the wide attackers pin Göztepe's wing-backs. The risk is the opposite: if Fenerbahçe's full-backs push high and the two holders are stretched, Göztepe's front two can attack the channels either side of the centre-backs.

Göztepe's 3-4-1-2 gives them three centre-backs, four across midfield and a free player behind two strikers. The shape is built to survive pressure centrally and then spring forward. The 1 in the 3-4-1-2 is the hinge: if that player can receive between Fenerbahçe's midfield and defence, Göztepe can turn a defensive phase into a two-on-two break in one pass.

The names that decide it

Ederson starts for Fenerbahçe. So do Irfan Kahveci and Alexis Antunes. Those three give the home side a mix of control and final-third craft, and their positioning against Göztepe's back three will shape how often Fenerbahçe can get into the box rather than circulate around it.

For Göztepe, Arda Kurtulan and Arda Özcimen are the players to track. In a 3-4-1-2, the two forwards have to hold the ball long enough for the midfield to arrive, and the wing-backs have to run beyond them. If Kurtulan and Özcimen can pin Fenerbahçe's centre-backs, Göztepe's midfield four can push up and make the game uncomfortable.

What is at stake

Fenerbahçe come into the match as the clear favourite. The pre-match model gives them a 71% winning probability, with Göztepe at 12%. That gap reflects the table, the venue and the squad, but it also raises the cost of a slow start. A home side with this much of the ball is expected to convert territory into shots, and Göztepe's back three will be judged on how long they can keep the game level.

Round 10 is early enough that no result settles the season, but late enough that dropped points at home carry weight. Fenerbahçe's 4-2-3-1 against Göztepe's 3-4-1-2 is the clearest read on how both coaches want the night to go: the hosts probing for central overloads, the visitors looking for the direct route behind.
