Barcelona and Getafe have confirmed their starting XIs for Saturday's LaLiga fixture at Spotify Camp Nou, and the two shapes tell the story before a ball is kicked. Barcelona line up in a 4-2-3-1. Getafe set up in a 5-3-2.

Kick-off is 16:30 UTC at Camp Nou. The match is part of LaLiga round 8.

Barcelona's 4-2-3-1 and the Yamal Absence

Hansi Flick sends Barcelona out in a 4-2-3-1, a shape built to get numbers between the lines and width from the full-backs. The selection carries one enforced change in attack: Lamine Yamal is not available because of a left hamstring injury.

That absence matters against a five-man defence. Yamal's one-on-one threat is the kind of lever that pulls a back five apart, forcing a wing-back to commit and opening the channel behind him. Without him, Barcelona's route into the box leans more heavily on combination play through the middle and on the full-backs overlapping to stretch Getafe's wide defenders.

Dani Olmo is the player to watch in that structure. In a 4-2-3-1, the central attacking midfielder is the one who receives between Getafe's three screening midfielders and their back five — the most crowded zone on the pitch. If Olmo can turn there, Barcelona can play through the block rather than around it.

Getafe's 5-3-2: Five Across the Back, Three Screening, Two Up Top

Getafe's 5-3-2 is a low block by design. Five across the back, three midfielders screening in front of them, two forwards up top. The mechanics are straightforward: the back five protects the width of the penalty area, the midfield three compress the space in front of the box, and the front two stay high enough to make Barcelona's centre-backs think twice about stepping in.

The result is a wall of eight outfield players behind the ball, with the two strikers left upfield as the out-ball. For Barcelona, the challenge is not creating possession — it is creating chances. A 5-3-2 concedes the ball in harmless areas and dares the opponent to find a way through the middle third.

David Soria and Djené anchor that resistance. Soria in goal and Djené in the back line are the two Getafe names that matter most when a low block is asked to hold for 90 minutes. Andrés García is the other Getafe starter to track, with the wide areas likely to be where Barcelona probe hardest.

The Tactical Question

The match sets up as a test of Barcelona's patience against Getafe's structure. Barcelona's 4-2-3-1 wants to pull the 5-3-2 out of shape; Getafe's 5-3-2 wants to stay compact and strike on the counter through the two forwards.

Anthony Gordon is the Barcelona starter whose direct running could be decisive against a deep block. If Barcelona's wide players can beat their man and force the back five to slide, gaps open for Olmo and the central runners. If Getafe's midfield three hold their positions and the back five stays disciplined, Barcelona will be left circulating the ball in front of the block.

Kick-off at Spotify Camp Nou is 16:30 UTC.
