Barcelona have confirmed their starting XI to face Deportivo Alavés at Spotify Camp Nou, lining up in a 4-3-3 against the visitors' 4-4-2. The teamsheet lands with the home side expected to dominate the ball, while Alavés arrive with a shape built to deny central access and spring forward through the wide channels.

Barcelona's 4-3-3: Width, Rest Defence and the Alavés Trap

Barcelona's 4-3-3 is designed to stretch the pitch. The front three hold maximum width, the full-backs push high, and the single pivot screens behind the ball. Against a 4-4-2, that creates a natural overload in midfield: three against two in the centre, with the Alavés front pair forced to choose between pressing the centre-backs or blocking the pivot. The risk is the space behind the advanced full-backs, which is exactly where Alavés will look to counter.

Alavés' 4-4-2 is a compact, two-bank structure. The front two screen the central lane, the midfield four shuffle across to protect the flanks, and the back four holds a high line only when the ball is in wide areas. The shape is built to force Barcelona wide and then crowd the box. The visitors will concede possession but not territory without a fight.

Alavés' Key Men: Guevara, Sivera and the Wide Outlet

Ander Guevara is the metronome in Alavés' midfield. His positioning between the lines will determine whether they can turn defensive recoveries into sustained possession or merely clear their lines. If Guevara can receive on the half-turn, Alavés can relieve pressure and draw Barcelona's midfield out of shape.

Antonio Sivera starts in goal. His distribution under pressure will be tested by Barcelona's high press. If Sivera goes long, Alavés lose the ball; if he goes short, Barcelona's front three are waiting. His decision-making is a swing factor.

Abderrahman Rebbach, Brian Fariñas and Carlos Protesoni are the other names to watch. Rebbach's pace on the break is Alavés' most direct route out. Fariñas and Protesoni provide the legs in midfield to shuttle across and block passing lanes. Their discipline without the ball will decide how long Alavés can keep the game level.

What the Selections Say

Barcelona have gone with their strongest available shape, no experimental back three, no midfield diamond. The 4-3-3 is the default, and the message is clear: dominate the ball, pin Alavés back, and use the width to create crossing angles. The absence of in-play attacking totals means the game is still at 0-0, but the tactical picture is set.

Alavés have not blinked. They have named a 4-4-2 with Guevara and Sivera as the spine. The plan is to absorb, stay compact, and hit on the counter. If Barcelona's full-backs leave space, Rebbach will attack it. If Barcelona's midfield loses patience, Guevara will punish it.

Kick-off is at 8:00 PM UTC. The lineups are in. The shapes are set. The first tactical question is whether Barcelona can turn possession into chances before Alavés' block settles.
