“The United States has knocked out Iran's nuclear program.” — Donald Trump. Our verdict: False.
Donald TrumpNews reportNovember 1, 2026

Donald Trump made the claim on 1 November 2026, during a rally, as reported by RFE/RL.

Our verdict

False

The claim is false. While Donald Trump did say the United States had knocked out Iran's nuclear programme, independent analysis shows Iran has been working to rebuild it, including underground, so the programme has not been permanently destroyed.

What we found

We rated this claim false. Donald Trump did make the statement, as reported by RFE/RL on 1 November 2026. But the evidence does not support the idea that the programme has been knocked out. A Congressional Research Service report published on 20 October 2026 said the status of Iran's nuclear programme remains debated, with reports that Iran has tried to reconstitute it after earlier strikes. A Foundation for Defense of Democracies analysis from 20 July 2026 said U.S. strikes had damaged key sites, but that Iran is rebuilding the programme underground. Taken together, these sources show the programme has been damaged but not eliminated.

The evidence

  • Background

RFE/RL reported that Donald Trump told a rally the United States had already wiped out Iran's nuclear programme. [1]

  • Contradicts the claim

A Congressional Research Service report said the status of Iran's nuclear programme is still debated, and that Iran has made efforts to reconstitute it after previous strikes. [2]

  • Background

A USA TODAY opinion column noted that Donald Trump had publicly claimed the U.S. destroyed Iran's nuclear programme. [3]

  • Background

A PBS fact check found that in one specific case, Donald Trump claimed to have knocked out the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, not the physical nuclear programme itself. [4]

  • Contradicts the claim

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies said U.S. strikes in 2025 and 2026 damaged key Iranian nuclear sites, but that the programme is being rebuilt underground, meaning it has not been permanently knocked out. [5]

What we could not confirm

  • The exact operational status of every Iranian nuclear facility.
  • Whether any post-claim developments have changed the state of Iran's nuclear programme.
