“Ohio lost more than 300,000 manufacturing jobs while Sherrod Brown was governor.” — Donald Trump. Our verdict: False.

The claim was attributed to Donald Trump in a post on the Substack newsletter tommyxtopher on 28 October 2026, describing a Trump rally in Ohio.
Our verdict
False
This claim is false. Sherrod Brown has never been governor of Ohio, so he could not have lost manufacturing jobs while holding that office.
What we found
Sherrod Brown has never served as governor of Ohio. The state's official history of the Governor's Residence lists Ohio governors from 1957 to 2019, and Brown does not appear. A profile of Brown's career on Voteview lists him as an Ohio state representative, secretary of state, U.S. representative and U.S. senator — but not governor. An Associated Press report describes him as a former U.S. senator and current Senate candidate, again with no mention of a governorship. Because the premise of the claim is wrong, the claim itself cannot be true. We also could not find the statement in two transcripts of Trump's Ohio appearances, though we note the specific article said to contain it was not available to us.
