“Iran's inflation rate reached 301% a few days prior to October 28, 2026.” — Donald Trump. Our verdict: False.

Donald Trump made the claim in a White House roundtable on 21 October 2026 and repeated it on Truth Social on 26 October, days before a press gaggle on 28 October 2026.
Our verdict
False
Donald Trump said Iran's inflation rate had reached 301% in the days before 28 October 2026. This is false: Iran's own Statistical Center put annual inflation at 76.8% that month, and no credible measure comes close to 301%.
What we found
Trump did make the claim. Iran International English reported that he said Iran's inflation had reached 301% at a White House roundtable on 21 October 2026, and the Anadolu Agency reported he repeated the figure on his Truth Social platform on 26 October. So the quotation is real.
The number, however, is not. Iran's Statistical Center reported annual inflation of 76.8% and point-to-point inflation of 88.7% for the twelve months ending in October 2026, as covered by Iran Focus on 29 October and by the Iran Observatory account. Those are the official figures for the period the claim covers.
Nothing in the sources we found supports a rate of 301% under any standard measure. The gap between 76.8% and 301% is far too wide to be explained by rounding or by a different reporting window, so we rate the claim false.
The numbers
Iran inflation rate: Trump claim vs official annual inflation, October 2026
Trump's claimed 301% inflation rate is far higher than the official annual inflation of 76.8% reported by Iran's Statistical Center.

What we could not confirm
- We could not check whether any unusual or non-standard inflation measure — such as a monthly annualised rate or a specific basket of goods — could come near 301%.
- Some social media posts about the claim do not carry clear dates, so we could not always pin down exactly when the remark was first made.
How we checked
We looked at reports of what Trump said, including Iranian and Turkish media coverage of his roundtable remarks and his Truth Social post, and compared them with official inflation figures from Iran's Statistical Center for the months around October 2026. We reviewed 6 relevant sources.
