“Donald Trump claims that Democrats recruited a candidate named Dan Sullivan to confuse voters in the Alaska Senate race.” — Donald Trump. Our verdict: Partly True.
Donald TrumpNews reportOctober 30, 2026

Donald Trump made the claim on 30 October 2026, in comments reported by ABC News about the Alaska Senate race.

Our verdict

Partly True

Donald Trump did say that Democrats recruited a candidate named Dan Sullivan to confuse voters in the Alaska Senate race, and two men named Dan Sullivan really are on the ballot. But the claim that Democrats recruited one of them, and did so to confuse voters, is still unproven.

What we found

We reached a partly true verdict because the claim splits into two parts. The first part checks out: official Alaska Division of Elections results list two candidates named Sullivan — 'Sullivan, Daniel J. Jr.' and 'Sullivan, Dan S. (REP)' — and ABC News reported that Trump publicly said Democrats recruited one of them to confuse voters. The second part does not check out yet. CNN reported that Democratic officials deny recruiting the challenger, while The Guardian reported that federal authorities are investigating the allegations, and the Alaska Lt. Governor opened an investigation into whether Dan J. Sullivan filed in coordination with another campaign or the Democratic Party with the intent to confuse voters. No public evidence yet proves recruitment or intent, so that part of the claim remains unconfirmed.
