Viking scored in the second minute and again in the 38th, led 2-0 at half-time, then watched Harry Kane and Luis Díaz turn the Champions League match at Lyse Arena into a 3-2 Bayern lead — before Herman Haugen headed a 90th-minute equaliser to make it 3-3.
Gianni Stensness put Viking ahead after two minutes, heading in Zlatko Tripić's corner. The xG on the chance was 0.16 — the kind of set-piece return Viking would need all night against a side that would finish with 66% of the ball.
Peter Christiansen made it 2-0 in the 38th on a fast break, finishing left-footed from Erik Botheim's assist. The chance was worth 0.10 xG. Viking had three shots in the first half and scored twice. Bayern had 13 and scored none.

Kane drags Bayern level, Díaz puts them ahead
Bayern's response came through Kane. He converted a 54th-minute penalty — 0.79 xG, the single highest-value chance of the match — and then headed in Joshua Kimmich's corner on 60 minutes to level at 2-2. Kane finished with two goals from 1.58 xG, the standout individual line of the night.
Luis Díaz put Bayern ahead on 71 minutes, right-footed from Konrad Laimer's assist, on a chance rated 0.84 xG. At that point Bayern had scored three unanswered goals in 17 minutes and led 3-2.

Haugen's late header and the xG gap
Viking's equaliser came in the 90th minute. Haugen headed in Tripić's second assist of the night — a 0.11 xG chance that made the score 3-3. Tripić assisted both of Viking's set-piece-adjacent goals and finished with no goals of his own.
The full-time numbers tell the story of a match that should not have finished level. Bayern out-shot Viking 25-8, put eight on target to Viking's five, and generated 3.51 xG to Viking's 0.56. Bayern took 15 corners to Viking's seven and had 50 touches in the box to Viking's 14. Viking won 48 duels to Bayern's 39 and committed 12 fouls to Bayern's eight.
Expected goals (xG) by half
Bayern München's xG went from 1.19 in the first half to 2.32 in the second.
Figures in xG
Viking lined up in a 4-3-3 and Bayern in a 4-2-3-1. Bayern's 88% pass accuracy and 498 completed passes — 374 of them in Viking's half — reflect a side that controlled the ball without controlling the scoreline. Viking's 74% accuracy and 210 completed passes reflect a side that took its chances when they arrived.
Bayern's three big chances to Viking's two, and the 2.95 xG gap between the teams, will be the number that follows this result. Viking's three goals came from 0.56 xG. Bayern's three came from 3.51. The scoreline is level; the underlying match was not.
