You check a Powerball ticket by comparing your five white-ball numbers and your red Powerball number against the winning numbers for the date you played. You can do this on the official Powerball site, on your state lottery's site or app, or by having a retailer scan the ticket. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.

What you need

  • Your printed Powerball ticket, with its numbers and draw date(s).
  • The draw date you want to check.
  • Access to a lottery website or app, or a lottery retailer.

Step by step

  1. Find the draw date printed on your ticket. If you chose more than one draw, your ticket shows a drawing date range instead of a single date.
  2. Go to the official Powerball site at powerball.com and open the Check Your Numbers page, or open your state lottery's Powerball page.
  3. Read the winning numbers for that date. For the drawing of Sat, Oct 17, 2026, the numbers were 12, 13, 24, 32 and 35, with Powerball 11 and a 3x Power Play.
  4. Enter your numbers in the checker. On powerball.com you select or type five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26, then choose a date range. The checker shows only combinations that would have won a prize.
  5. On a state site, use the equivalent tool. The Virginia Lottery, for example, has a Check My Numbers box where you enter your numbers, choose Exact or Any match order, and pick the number of consecutive draws or All Past Numbers.
  6. Compare the numbers yourself if you prefer. The five white-ball numbers do not have to be in the same order as they were drawn; the Powerball number must match exactly.
  7. Check any add-on drawings too. If you paid for Double Play, your same numbers go into a second drawing held after the Powerball drawing. If you paid for Power Play, a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x applies to non-jackpot prizes.
  8. Confirm a win before you celebrate. Have the ticket validated through a sales terminal at a lottery retailer, or use your state lottery's app or website. Posted numbers are unofficial; the official source is the lottery's central computer system.
  9. Keep the ticket safe. You need the printed ticket to claim any prize.

Things to know

A Powerball play costs $2. Power Play costs $1 extra per play, and Double Play costs $1 extra per play. In Idaho and Montana, Powerball is bundled with Power Play for a minimum purchase price of $3 per play.

Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. Sales cut-off times vary by one to two hours before the drawing, depending on where you bought the ticket. In Virginia, for example, sales close at 10 p.m. ET at retail and 9:58 p.m. ET online on draw nights.

There are nine ways to win a Powerball prize. Prizes run from $4 for matching the Powerball alone up to the jackpot for matching all five white balls plus the Powerball. Overall odds of winning a prize are about 1 in 24.87, and the odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 292.2 million.

Jackpot winners choose between an annuity paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years and a lump-sum payment. Both advertised figures are before federal and jurisdictional taxes. If more than one ticket matches all six numbers, the jackpot is shared equally.

Prize claims must be submitted within one year of the drawing date in Minnesota. Rules and deadlines are set by each lottery jurisdiction, so check the terms that apply where you bought your ticket.

If a website's numbers disagree with the official winning numbers, the numbers certified by the Multi-State Lottery Association and the relevant state lottery control. No valid claim can be based on numbers posted on a website.

Powerball is sold in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Sales were due to expand to the United Kingdom beginning July 21, 2026.

Common questions

Can I check a ticket from an earlier drawing? Yes. The checker on powerball.com lets you enter a date range covering the past five years, and state sites such as Virginia's offer an All Past Numbers option.

Do the white-ball numbers have to be in the order drawn? No. The five white-ball numbers win regardless of order. The Powerball number must match exactly.

Where can I check my ticket in person? At a lottery retailer, where the ticket can be validated through a sales terminal. Some states also have lottery vending machines that can check a ticket.

What happens if I added Power Play? Power Play multiplies non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x, depending on the multiplier drawn. The Match 5 prize with Power Play is always $2 million, and the 10x multiplier is available only when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.

Can I cancel a Powerball play? No. In Virginia, for example, Powerball plays cannot be canceled.
