A 31-year-old man was arrested after an armed incident at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, prompting President Trump to commend Secret Service agents for their swift action.

The annual White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner, held at the Washington Hilton, experienced a security breach. President Trump and other officials were evacuated from the ballroom where the event takes place each year. This swift evacuation followed an incident in the hotel's lobby.

Cole Tomas Allen, 31, faces charges following his arrest at the scene. President Trump later addressed the event's swift resolution, stating, "A man armed with multiple weapons charged a security checkpoint and was subdued by brave Secret Service agents." The incident unfolded as security personnel shot at the suspect after he forced his way through a checkpoint just outside the hotel ballroom.

Around 2,300 guests at the dinner passed through several security layers to enter the ballroom. These measures included ticket verification and magnetometers, or metal detectors, operated by the Secret Service and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The hotel itself was closed to the public beginning at 2:00 PM on the day of the event, restricting access to registered guests and ticketed attendees only.

Initial reports from law enforcement officials characterized the perpetrator as a "lone wolf." Allen, a resident of Torrance, California, has a professional background that includes recognition as "Teacher of the Month" by C2 Education, a private tutoring company. His LinkedIn profile lists degrees in mechanical engineering and computer science, alongside experience as an independent game developer. Federal campaign finance records also show a $25 donation attributed to Allen, made to a Democratic political action committee supporting Kamala Harris in 2024.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran affirmed that the "multilayered protection works," referring to the comprehensive security plan implemented for the evening. This plan involved restricting access and employing multiple checkpoints, which ultimately contained the threat. The incident concluded without further harm to the dinner attendees or the President.

Authorities continue their investigation into Allen's motive and the specific circumstances surrounding the security breach. The focus remains on understanding the full scope of the event and any potential implications for future high-profile security operations.
