Pakistani President Zardari Honors Mao, Signs Three MoUs, Sends Astronauts to China

Zardari’s trip from April 25 to May 1, 2026, included stops in Hunan and Hainan provinces. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of China‑Pakistan diplomatic relations, a milestone both sides have highlighted in recent statements. On Monday, Zardari placed a floral wreath at the bronze statue of Mao Zedong in Shaoshan, Hunan Province, amid rainy conditions. During the same visit he observed the signing of three MoUs covering water desalination for Karachi, agricultural technology collaboration, and tea sector cooperation. Separately, two Pakistani astronauts arrived in Beijing to begin training at China's Astronaut Center, working alongside Chinese astronauts.

The wreath laying signals a gesture of historical respect and goodwill, reinforcing the symbolic dimension of the bilateral relationship. The three MoUs target concrete sectors—water security, farming productivity, and tea trade—that align with Pakistan’s development priorities and China’s expertise. Joint astronaut training expands cooperation into space technology, a field both nations have identified for future collaboration.
