Ogun Police Dismiss Invasion Rumors, Boost Patrols After Fake Kidnapping Video Surfaces

Residents of Ogun State have been alarmed by unverified reports of threat letters warning of planned abductions of schoolchildren. A video purporting to show the arrest of suspected kidnappers in Ijebu‑Igbo began circulating online, fueling fears of a fresh security crisis. The police command responded by urging the public to avoid sharing unconfirmed information that could cause unnecessary panic.

Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi stated that the command currently has no credible intelligence confirming the alleged bandits’ invasion threats. He added that the video of the alleged kidnappers’ arrest is outdated footage from 2024 and does not reflect recent events. Despite the lack of credible threats, the command has intensified intelligence gathering, increased patrols, and deployed personnel strategically across the state, working closely with local hunters and vigilantes to sustain peace.

The police’s proactive measures aim to reassure communities while deterring any potential criminal activity.
