Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has shifted his political aspirations, abandoning a Lagos governorship bid and a subsequent senatorial interest. He will now seek the House of Representatives seat for Agege Federal Constituency, following President Tinubu's guidance.

Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has ended his pursuit of the Lagos governorship, a position he had reportedly sought to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. His political focus has transitioned from a statewide campaign to a specific federal constituency contest.

Obasa had initially intensified political consultations statewide, aiming to consolidate support. This effort positioned him as a contender for the governorship.

Following internal party consultations, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat emerged as the preferred governorship candidate. This development prompted Obasa to redirect his ambitions.

Obasa then turned his attention to the Lagos West Senatorial District. His interest gained traction, and party members considered him as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for that district.

However, this move faced resistance from certain party factions, including the APC's national leadership and its women's wing. These groups advocated for the retention of the incumbent female Senator.

In response, President Bola Tinubu advised Obasa to pursue a House of Representatives seat instead. This directive specifically pointed him toward the Agege Federal Constituency.

Obasa has since begun quiet mobilization efforts within Agege. He is rallying grassroots support for his new objective of winning the House of Representatives seat.

This strategic repositioning underscores the fluid nature of political ambitions within the Lagos APC. Party cohesion and leadership directives continue to shape the trajectories of key political figures.

Observers will now watch how Obasa's established political machinery translates to a federal constituency campaign. The coming months will reveal the full impact of this shift on the Agege Federal Constituency race and broader Lagos politics.
