NGEL has commissioned 237.5 megawatts of a solar project in Rajasthan, significantly raising its operational renewable energy capacity. This addition brings the company's total installed renewable capacity to nearly 10.4 gigawatts.

NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), the dedicated renewable energy division of India's state-owned power producer NTPC, is systematically expanding its solar power generation capabilities. This expansion occurs within India's rapidly growing utility-scale solar sector, which saw its capacity increase by 31% in 2024, reaching 29.5 gigawatts from 22.5 gigawatts the prior year. NGEL's strategy includes developing significant projects, such as Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks (UMREPs), which are government-supported zones designed to streamline large-scale renewable energy infrastructure deployment.

NGEL recently brought online 237.5 megawatts (MW) of a planned 300-megawatt solar project situated in Rajasthan. This significant commissioning bolsters India's renewable energy supply. Following the integration of an additional 87.5 megawatts from the same project, NGEL's cumulative installed renewable energy capacity now stands at nearly 10.4 gigawatts (GW). To clarify, one gigawatt equals 1,000 megawatts, underscoring the substantial contribution these projects make to the national grid. These capacity additions highlight NGEL's active role in scaling renewable energy production.

This incremental capacity gain positions NGEL closer to its stated long-term objective of achieving 60 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by financial year 2032. The company continues to bid on new projects and advance existing developments, including its Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks. Such strategic expansions are crucial for India's transition to a more sustainable energy portfolio. Industry observers will track NGEL's consistent progress in project commissionings and overall capacity growth as it works towards its ambitious 2032 renewable energy target.
