About 10,000 fans are expected to line the Las Vegas Strip for a free parade honoring female Olympians on July 16, launching Flavor Flav's 'She Got Game' weekend.
The parade follows the U.S. women's hockey team's 2-1 overtime victory over Canada for gold at the Milan Winter Games.
The event is part of a four-day celebration that includes a nightclub party, two pool parties and a concert at Toshiba Plaza. MGM Resorts International and Delta Air Lines are listed as sponsors, and the lineup features Public Enemy, Sheila E., Grace Bowers and Blu DeTiger alongside the athletes.
The parade will run from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., starting near Park MGM and moving south on Las Vegas Boulevard before turning west onto Bruno Mars Way, a newly named street, to Toshiba Plaza. Organizers anticipate roughly 6,000 spectators along the route and another 4,000 fans at the plaza celebration.
After the parade, Toshiba Plaza will host a free concert from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. featuring the musical acts and surprise guest appearances. Water stations will be placed throughout the area to address July's typical high temperatures in Las Vegas.
The weekend highlights female athletic achievement while drawing visitors to the Strip during a month with typical high temperatures. By combining sports recognition with music and nightlife, the organizers aim to boost local tourism and extend the Olympic spotlight beyond the competition arena.
Watch for the official party at Marquee Nightclub on July 17 and the pool parties on July 18 and 19, which will continue to celebrate Olympians and Paralympians throughout the week.
