TL;DR: Golden, an adult male, was shot dead on Fatoki Street in Lagos' Igando area during a dispute over Yahoo money. Police found him in a pool of blood and confirmed his death at a nearby hospital; Confra Naija said the killing was business-related, not cult-linked.
On Tuesday afternoon, two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and rode into the Igando community searching for Golden. They located him sitting outside on Fatoki Street, shot him in the head, and fled.
Witnesses heard gunfire and saw the victim collapse in a growing pool of blood. A police source told PUNCH Metro that the assailants numbered about two and that the victim was taken to the morgue after confirmation of death.
Police officers arrived shortly after the shooting, found Golden lifeless, and transported him to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident but could not disclose the cause, stating an investigation is ongoing and that the spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, was unreachable.
Confra Naija posted online that the attack stemmed from a business disagreement over Yahoo money - proceeds from internet fraud - and emphasized that no cult groups were involved, despite rumors linking the Aye and Vikings factions.
The shooting illustrates how disputes over illicit online earnings can ignite violence in Lagos neighborhoods, especially when rumors of cult activity spread quickly on social media. Authorities will likely review surveillance footage from the area and interview anyone who saw the motorcycle riders.
Residents should expect increased police patrols in Igando as the investigation continues, and community leaders may call for dialogue to prevent similar conflicts over online fraud proceeds. This incident follows a similar killing five days earlier in Sangotedo, where a shawarma vendor was shot by suspected cultists, underscoring a pattern of lethal disputes in the city.
