On Ho Chi Minh’s 136th birthday, Vietnam highlighted his diplomatic vision as the foundation of its foreign policy, pointed to the 2023 Vietnam‑US comprehensive strategic partnership as its realization, and marked the handover of a restored Ho Chi Minh monument in Mexico City.

Vietnamese embassies in Washington DC, Mexico City and Algiers held ceremonies on May 19 to commemorate the leader’s birth.

In Washington, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung offered incense and said Ho Chi Minh’s forward‑looking diplomatic vision underpins Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self‑reliance, peace, friendship and mutual cooperation.

In Mexico City, officials celebrated the 51st anniversary of Vietnam‑Mexico ties and noted the recent renovation of the Ho Chi Minh statue.

In Algiers, a flower‑offering ceremony reinforced historic friendship between the two nations.

Ambassador Dung stated that Ho Chi Minh’s diplomatic vision forms the foundation of Vietnam’s foreign policy based on independence, self‑reliance, peace, friendship and mutual cooperation. He also said the establishment of the Vietnam‑US comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023 is a historic milestone fulfilling Ho Chi Minh’s diplomatic aspirations. On May 18, Mexican officials handed over the restored Ho Chi Minh monument in Mexico City to Vietnamese and local authorities after a month‑long renovation.

The remarks link Vietnam’s current diplomatic posture directly to the legacy of its founding leader, suggesting continuity in its approach to international relations. The 2023 partnership with the United States is presented as the concrete outcome of that long‑standing vision, indicating that bilateral ties will likely deepen in trade, security and technology. The restored monument in Mexico City serves as a tangible symbol of Vietnam’s cultural outreach and its effort to strengthen ties with Latin America.

The inauguration of the restored monument is scheduled for May 27 in Mexico City, and further developments in the Vietnam‑US comprehensive strategic partnership are expected later this year as both sides implement agreed cooperation programs.
