Trump Urges GOP Unity on ICE Funding via Reconciliation

Budget reconciliation is a fast‑track procedure that lets Senate bills pass with a simple majority, bypassing the 60‑vote filibuster threshold. Senator Lindsey Graham celebrated the vote as a significant step toward fully funding border agencies for the remainder of the Trump presidency. Senate Majority Leader John Thune called the approach a reality he does not prefer but accepts.

The reconciliation route could allow Republicans to secure immigration enforcement funding despite Democratic opposition, potentially ending the DHS shutdown. However, Democrats argue the measure lacks safeguards against alleged abuses by federal agents, setting up a likely battle over oversight and accountability.
