STM introduced a 1,000‑km range Kuzgun loitering drone and an 11‑meter Tengiz unmanned underwater vehicle, and said it is ready to localise production with Gulf partners.

At the SAHA defense expo in Istanbul, Turkish engineering firm STM displayed four UAVs and one UUV, marking its first public rollout of these systems. The highlight was Kuzgun, a fixed‑wing loitering munition capable of traveling 180 km/h and delivering a high‑explosive fragmentation warhead over distances exceeding 1,000 km. STM’s General Manager Ozgur Guleryuz noted that swarm deployment of Kuzgun is already on the agenda, although no contracts have been signed yet.

STM also revealed the Tengiz unmanned underwater vehicle, a 11.2‑meter platform that can dive to 400 m and cruise at 8 knots. Tengiz is designed for both ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) and combat roles, including anti‑submarine and electronic warfare, and can launch heavy torpedoes and smart loitering munitions.

The company emphasized its reliance on subcontractors for production, positioning itself as an integrator rather than a traditional manufacturer. Guleryuz said STM is “open to any kind of technology transfer” and is pursuing localisation agreements across the Middle East. Existing memoranda of understanding with Gulf states lay the groundwork for joint development, local assembly, or outright production of STM‑designed drones in those markets.

What this means is a potential shift in Turkey’s defense export strategy toward deeper collaboration rather than simple sales. By offering to embed Gulf‑origin technology into its platforms, STM could become a conduit for regional defence autonomy while expanding its market reach. The next step will be concrete partnership deals and test flights that demonstrate swarm capability and underwater performance in operational settings.
