TL;DR: SAS introduced Viya Copilot, a human‑governed chat assistant, and AI Navigator, a SaaS tool for end‑to‑end AI model oversight, positioning trust as a competitive edge.

Enterprises are moving from AI pilots to production at record speed. As AI agents begin to act autonomously—making decisions, invoking tools, and pulling data from fragmented sources—visibility and accountability erode. Companies now demand centralized oversight that can turn trust into a market differentiator.

At the SAS Innovate conference, the firm announced two linked products. Viya Copilot embeds a conversational assistant directly into the Viya analytics platform. Users can ask natural‑language questions, generate explainable code, and receive step‑by‑step guidance through data pipelines, dashboard creation, and model deployment. The initial rollout targets two domains: Asset and Liability Management for financial risk scenarios, and Health Clinical Data Discovery for cohort analysis and medical literature review. SAS plans to extend the assistant to banking, manufacturing and other sectors later this year.

Complementing the assistant, SAS AI Navigator will appear on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace in Q3 2026. The SaaS service inventories every AI model and tool an organization uses—whether built in‑house or sourced from third parties—and applies internal policies and external regulations across the stack. By delivering a single view of AI assets, Navigator helps firms answer the basic question of “how are we doing?” in terms of compliance, risk and reputation.

Both offerings rely on SAS’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which standardizes connections for external large‑language models such as Claude, GPT or Gemini. The MCP lets agents safely invoke Viya capabilities without custom code, while the Agentic AI Accelerator supplies reusable components for building, deploying and managing AI agents across skill levels.

The launch reflects a broader industry shift from AI that merely generates insights to AI that takes actions. As Marinela Profi, SAS’s global AI strategy lead, noted, this leap creates new demands for trust, governance and accountability. By embedding human oversight into conversational workflows and providing a transparent inventory of AI assets, SAS aims to make responsible AI deployment a sustainable business advantage.

Watch for early adopter feedback on Viya Copilot’s impact on workflow efficiency and for the first enterprise deployments of AI Navigator later this year.
