SANY Renewable Energy to Break Ground on Serbia's 168 MW Alibunar Wind Parks by Mid-2025
SANY Renewable Energy plans to break ground on Serbia's 168 MW Alibunar wind parks by Q2 2025, with grid connection expected in early 2028 and a possible 800 MW renewable portfolio.

SANY Renewable Energy will break ground on Serbia's 168 MW Alibunar wind parks by the end of Q2 2025 and aims to deliver electricity to the grid in early 2028.
The move marks the Chinese turbine maker's first European wind investment and signals a possible expansion to 800 MW of renewables in the country.
SANY Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of China's SANY Group, has signed engineering, procurement and construction contracts for two wind farms—Alibunar 1 (96.6 MW) and Alibunar 2 (71.4 MW)—in the Banat region northeast of Belgrade.
The projects secured contracts for difference in Serbia's second renewable auction, after which ownership transferred to SANY.
Company representatives met with Elektroprivreda Srbije, the Ministry of Mining and Energy, and transmission operator Elektromreža Srbije to discuss cooperation and support.
The sites lie near an existing Alibunar wind plant, providing a cluster effect for grid integration and operations.
The combined capacity of Alibunar 1 and 2 totals 168 megawatts.
SANY expects to begin electricity generation and grid delivery in early 2028.
Upon full completion, the firm's Serbian renewable portfolio could reach up to 800 megawatts of installed capacity.
The company noted that the Alibunar parks are its first European investment and are treated as a strategic priority.
The wind parks will add roughly 168 MW of clean power to Serbia's grid, helping the country meet its EU-aligned renewable targets.
For SANY, the Alibunar sites serve as a foothold in Europe, potentially paving the way for further wind, solar, or hybrid projects in the region.
Local stakeholders note that the investment could stimulate jobs and supply-chain activity in northeastern Serbia.
The projects also reinforce Serbia's effort to diversify away from coal-fired generation and improve regional energy security.
Watch for groundbreaking ceremonies in mid-2025, progress reports on turbine installation, and any announcements of additional renewable acquisitions in Serbia.
