Over a Dozen Gunmen Storm OOU Hostels in Midnight Attack, Police Launch Investigation

A midnight armed robbery targeted student hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University's Ibogun Campus. This incident prompted an investigation by Ogun State Police.

Reports indicate over 12 gunmen attacked multiple student hostels. They fired randomly and forced occupants to flee during the late-night assault, which began around midnight and stretched into the early hours. The assailants operated for several minutes, according to local accounts, without immediate resistance.

Eyewitness Jinadu Michael Mabayomije described the event as terrifying. He stated the attackers arrived in large numbers, shot, and broke into rooms. This action caused students to flee in panic, many unsure where to seek refuge.

The attackers stole mobile phones, laptops, and other valuables from the hostels. Some students sustained injuries while attempting to escape or resist. Disturbing scenes, including what appeared to be bloodstains, appeared on walls and floors in affected hostels, suggesting physical altercations or wounds. Residents of the Ibogun community also recounted the attack as chaotic, with persistent gunshots echoing across the campus environment.

Ogun State Police have launched a full investigation into the attack. The Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Division and the Area Commander deployed to the scene. Their presence aims to assess the situation and ensure student and resident safety.

Authorities now focus on identifying and apprehending the individuals responsible. The community awaits further developments as the police investigation proceeds into the security breach and its implications for campus safety.
