Nollywood Actor Solomon Akiyesi Dies in Sleep After Ulcer Diagnosis, AGN Confirms

Nollywood actor Solomon Akiyesi died in his sleep following a brief illness, the Actors Guild of Nigeria confirms.

The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, mourns the loss of Solomon Akiyesi, a veteran actor known for his extensive contributions to cinema. His career spanned from the late 1990s, featuring in over 100 films and earning recognition as both an actor and producer.

Akiyesi, a native of Ososo in Edo State, left a significant mark with roles in films such as *Desperate Ladies*, *Pretty Liars*, and *Bridge of Contract*. His later works included *Marry Who You Love* in 2016, *Gen Z Wife* in 2024, and *Accidentally Us*, slated for 2025 release.

Prior to his death, Akiyesi experienced chest pain. He sought hospitalization for these symptoms, where medical professionals diagnosed him with an ulcer and provided medication. He returned home after this medical intervention.

His wife attempted to wake him at 4 a.m., but he did not respond. This discovery confirmed his death in his sleep. The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Yakub Abubakar, confirmed Akiyesi's passing, describing it as a major loss for the industry. His remains are now located at a morgue in Abuja.

Colleagues across Nollywood have begun to issue tributes. Actress Celestina Dovigalle described Akiyesi as lively and full of energy, noting his ability to bring joy to every film set. The industry will continue to monitor statements from his family and the AGN regarding memorial arrangements.
