Neymar’s minor calf oedema will not keep him out of Brazil’s World Cup camp; the 34‑year‑old aims to add a sixth title for the Seleção.

Brazil announced a 26‑man roster on Monday, confirming that Neymar will travel to the pre‑tournament camp next week. Santos’ medical chief Rodrigo Zogaib said the player’s calf swelling is minor and that his recovery timeline fits the national team’s schedule.

The forward has not played for Brazil since 2023, missing most of the qualifying campaign due to a series of injuries. He returned to his boyhood club Santos in 2023 after a stint in Saudi Arabia, but form and fitness have remained concerns.

Neymar holds the record for most goals scored for Brazil – 79 goals in 128 appearances. That tally places him ahead of Pelé and Romário, underscoring his importance to a side that has not won a World Cup since 2002.

The World Cup kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Brazil’s first match is against Morocco on June 13 in New Jersey, followed by games versus Haiti and Scotland in Group C. Warm‑up fixtures against Panama (May 31) and Egypt are still on the calendar.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge last year, faced scrutiny over whether to include Neymar after the player’s prolonged absence. The decision to recall him signals confidence in his ability to contribute, even if his recent club form has been uneven.

If Neymar stays fit, Brazil retains a potent attacking option alongside Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo. His experience in three previous World Cups could prove valuable in high‑pressure knockout rounds.

The next development to watch is Neymar’s performance in the Panama friendly. A strong showing would cement his role, while any setback could force Ancelotti to adjust his tactical plans ahead of the tournament’s opening match.
