Kano State Police Command successfully rescued a two-year-old kidnap victim and apprehended three suspects. Authorities recovered N930,000 of the N1 million ransom paid, demonstrating a decisive response to a child abduction.
On April 19, a resident in Gwammaja Quarters, Dala Local Government Area (LGA), reported the abduction of his two-year-old son, Aliyu Muhammad. Kidnappers seized the child outside their home, initiating a demand for a N1 million ransom from the family. The family complied, paying the requested amount. However, despite receiving the N1 million ransom, the abductors failed to release Aliyu.
Following this report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, directed the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to activate all operational and intelligence assets. This directive initiated a targeted response aimed at locating the child and apprehending those responsible. Through sustained follow-up and a technical operation, law enforcement identified a specific hideout where the child was held.
Police efforts culminated in the arrest of three suspects from Gwammaja Quarters, Kano. Authorities apprehended Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24. Investigators determined that the victim was held captive at Hussaini Saminu's residence within the same Gwammaja Quarters.
The police successfully rescued Aliyu Muhammad unhurt, promptly reuniting him with his family. This operation also led to a significant financial recovery: officers recovered N930,000 from the suspects. This sum represents 93% of the N1 million ransom paid by the family.
The swift action by the Kano Police Command underscores its commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring public safety for all residents. This operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and the strategic deployment of resources in resolving complex kidnapping cases. Law enforcement officials reiterate their ongoing efforts to maintain security within communities. What to watch next involves the upcoming judicial process for the arrested suspects and continued police operations targeting criminal elements across Kano State.
