Jalen Parker Announces Camden Transfer, Will Miss First Three Games Due to NJSIAA Rules

Star quarterback Jalen Parker confirmed his transfer to Camden High School on Thursday, a move impacting two state champion programs. NJSIAA transfer regulations require him to sit out the first three games of the upcoming season.

Jalen Parker, New Jersey's record-setting quarterback, will play his senior season at Camden High School. This decision, finalized Thursday morning with paperwork filed the same day, shifts one of the state's most productive players to a new program.

Parker's tenure at Winslow Township set numerous benchmarks. He recorded 107 passing touchdowns across three seasons, establishing a new state record. This figure surpassed the previous mark of 105 set by Devin Leary in 2017. Parker also led Winslow Township to consecutive Group 4 state championships, throwing 43 touchdowns in each of the last two seasons and accumulating 7,723 career passing yards. He threw a touchdown in 34 of 35 career games at Winslow.

NJSIAA transfer rules mandate a three-game sitting period for players switching schools without a bona fide change of residence. Consequently, Parker will not play in Camden's initial three contests this fall. This rule aims to regulate athletic transfers across New Jersey high schools.

Camden, which secured its first state title in December, brings in a nationally recognized talent with Parker's arrival. The Panthers' 2022 championship team also navigated NJSIAA transfer rules with quarterback Ahmad Jones, who similarly sat out the season's first three games. Jones, a transfer from Pleasantville, went on to throw for over 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. During his absence, freshman Gregory Wyche Jr. stepped in at quarterback, completing 719 yards and three touchdowns.

Parker's addition significantly reinforces Camden's offensive strength, providing a proven leader for a team coming off a 27-8 state championship victory over Shabazz. Simultaneously, his departure creates a substantial void at Winslow Township. This transfer follows the recent departure of former Winslow head coach Bill Belton, who accepted a position at St. Augustine Prep.
