Istanbul Park Circuit will rejoin the Formula 1 calendar in 2027, securing a five-year agreement with Türkiye's Ministry of Youth and Sports, marking its return after a five-year absence.

Formula 1 confirmed the return of Istanbul Park Circuit to its racing calendar in 2027, finalizing a five-year agreement with Türkiye's Ministry of Youth and Sports. This strategic move follows a period of significant fan growth for the sport in Türkiye, which now boasts over 19 million fans and more than 7.5 million social media followers.

The 5.338-kilometer track, situated approximately 45 kilometers from Istanbul, first hosted a Grand Prix in 2005 and has staged nine races to date. Renowned for its challenging layout, the circuit features notable elevation changes and demanding corners. Its design often draws comparisons to iconic tracks like Brazil's Interlagos and Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps, placing it in esteemed company.

The circuit's signature corner, Turn 8, is a multi-apex, ultra-fast left-hander that sweeps downhill. Turn 1, a sharp left-hander, also presents a significant challenge with its steep drop, reminiscent of American track Laguna Seca's Corkscrew. These elements, combined with a long back straight offering overtaking opportunities into Turn 12 and a mix of medium and slow-speed corners, ensure a technically demanding race.

The Turkish Grand Prix last featured in 2020 and 2021. Lewis Hamilton secured his record-tying seventh drivers' championship at the venue in 2020, matching Michael Schumacher's all-time record. Other past winners include Valtteri Bottas, who won the 2021 race, and Felipe Massa, who holds the record for most wins at the venue with three victories.

This five-year agreement underscores both the circuit's competitive appeal and Türkiye's financial commitment to hosting a premier global sporting event. The return to a market demonstrating such substantial engagement aligns with Formula 1's commercial expansion goals. Data shows significant growth in the region, with Instagram followers increasing by 25% year-on-year and YouTube views rising by 107%.

The inclusion of Istanbul Park in 2027 signals Formula 1's continued interest in markets with strong fan bases and its willingness to revisit established, challenging circuits that consistently deliver competitive racing. Spectators await further details on the full 2027 calendar.
