Hampton Vale Voters Swing Parties Over Cleanliness, Safety

Hampton Vale sits at the south‑western tip of Peterborough, built on the former Orton brickworks site and now home to lakes, swans and a growing population. Over the past two decades the ward has shifted from Conservative‑led council control to a Labour‑Peterborough First‑Liberal Democrat coalition, yet local voters keep changing their allegiance at the ballot box.

In the 2022 local election Hampton Vale chose a Conservative candidate; in 2023 it swung to a Liberal Democrat; and in 2024 it elected a Peterborough First independent. Restaurant chef Tina Defalco told reporters that the city centre "needs a good clean up" and urged morning jet‑washing to remove the filth she sees daily. Long‑time resident Lise Gothard said she has observed "bin fires, break‑ins, car thefts and garage thefts of motorbikes," adding that anti‑social behaviour is getting worse and eroding community feeling.

Voters link the party swings directly to their demands for cleaner streets and safer neighbourhoods, suggesting that any candidate who can deliver visible improvements in sanitation and crime reduction will gain their support.
