Gunmen attacked Ra Kung village in Plateau State early Friday, injuring one person and destroying over 15 hectares of farmland. Another individual was reported missing following the incident.

Gunmen raided Ra Kung village in Ropp District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria, in the early hours of Friday. This attack resulted in one injury and significant damage to agricultural lands, raising immediate concerns for the affected community.

The assailants targeted the village at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Friday. One resident sustained critical injuries and is now receiving medical treatment. Beyond human harm, the attack caused extensive material damage. Over 15 hectares of farmland, meticulously cultivated with various cash crops, were deliberately destroyed. In a related development, one person was reported missing on Friday morning following the incursion.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association swiftly condemned the assault. The association, through its National Publicity Secretary, highlighted the severity of the damage inflicted. They articulated that the deliberate destruction of such large swathes of farmland directly impacts the economic survival of affected families. This action also serves as a blow against broader regional efforts to ensure food security. The association described the incident as aligning with a sustained pattern of violence. This pattern, they noted, often aims at displacing indigenous communities, undermining their livelihoods, and instilling fear among residents.

These recurrent acts of violence pose a persistent challenge to stability in Plateau State. Such incidents often disrupt agricultural activities, which form the bedrock of local economies, and exacerbate humanitarian needs. The Berom Youth Moulders-Association has urged security agencies to promptly apprehend the perpetrators. They also called on government bodies at all levels to intensify protection for vulnerable communities, particularly in Barkin Ladi and other high-risk areas. Observers will monitor the actions taken by authorities to address these security concerns and provide support for recovery.
