Four Texas cities hold mayoral elections Saturday while the race to fill Senate District 4 heads to a November showdown between Republican Brett Ligon and Democrat Ron Angeletti.

Voters in Arlington, Lubbock, Irving and Frisco head to the polls Saturday to choose their mayors in officially nonpartisan contests. Candidates must win a majority to avoid a runoff, and if no one tops 50 percent the top two advance to a June 13 runoff.

In Irving, term‑limited Republican Rick Stopfer cannot run again, opening the field to three candidates including his 2020 challenger Olivia Novelo Abreu, who previously lost to him by 54 percent to 46 percent. Arlington’s incumbent Jim Ross seeks a third term under a three‑year limit approved by voters in 2022, facing challenger Steve Cavender among four total candidates. Lubbock’s Mark McBrayer runs for a second two‑year term with three challengers, while Frisco’s Jeff Cheney, completing his maximum three‑year term, faces four opponents and a likely runoff.

The Senate District 4 seat left vacant when Republican Brandon Creighton resigned in October 2025 to become chancellor at Texas Tech will be decided in November; Creighton had won re‑election in 2022 with 70 percent of the vote, and the general election will pit Republican Brett Ligon against Democrat Ron Angeletti, who secured their party nominations in March. Polls close at 8:00 PM Eastern Time for both the municipal and state contests.

These elections test whether Republicans can maintain their 18‑12 advantage in the Texas Senate while voters decide local leadership in four of the state’s largest cities. Watch for runoff results on June 13 and the November general election that will determine the Senate outcome.
