The global billionaire population is set to approach 4,000 by 2031, a significant expansion primarily driven by advancements in technology and artificial intelligence.

The world's wealthiest individuals are accumulating fortunes at an accelerating rate. Projections indicate the global billionaire population will reach nearly 4,000 by 2031. This forecast reflects a continued expansion of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) across global economies.

The number of individuals holding at least $30 million in wealth shows a substantial increase. This group expanded from 162,191 individuals in 2021 to 713,626 today, marking a rise of over 300%. This growth underscores a broader trend of rapid wealth creation at the top tier.

Technological innovation and artificial intelligence are key drivers behind this rapid accumulation. Liam Bailey, head of research, notes that the ability to scale a business has reached an all-time high. Business scaling, the process of expanding operations or user bases rapidly without proportional increases in costs, facilitates swift fortune creation.

This mechanism, amplified by tech and AI, allows entrepreneurs to reach vast markets with minimal physical infrastructure. Consequently, wealth generation accelerates, contributing directly to the swelling ranks of billionaires and multimillionaires globally. For instance, the number of billionaires in Saudi Arabia is expected to more than double from 23 in 2026 to 65 by 2031, with Poland seeing similar growth from 13 to 29.

Geographically, shifts in wealth concentration are also notable. Asia Pacific is projected to house 37.5% of the world's billionaires by 2031, surpassing North America, which is expected to account for 27.8%. These regional dynamics highlight evolving economic power centers.

Ongoing developments in AI, platform economies, and emerging technologies will likely continue to reshape global wealth distribution. Monitoring these technological advancements and their impact on business models remains critical for understanding future wealth trends.
