Anthropic is set to raise over $30 billion, pushing its valuation past $900 billion and overtaking OpenAI.

Anthropic, the AI firm founded by former OpenAI staff, is preparing to close a financing round that could exceed $30 billion. The capital injection would lift the company’s valuation beyond $900 billion, making it the world’s most valuable artificial‑intelligence startup.

Co‑lead investors Sequoia Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group, Altimetre Capital and Greenoaks Capital Partners each plan to commit roughly $2 billion. Additional backing is expected from existing backers such as Founders Fund and General Catalyst. The total commitments are already tracking above the $30 billion target, though final terms remain under negotiation.

CEO Dario Amodei reported that Anthropic’s annualised revenue and usage grew 80‑fold in the first quarter. The company projects $10.9 billion in revenue for the second quarter, more than double the prior three‑month period, and expects an annual run‑rate exceeding $50 billion by next month. A near‑$45 billion agreement with SpaceX and a $1.8 billion deal with Akamai expand its computing capacity, while Google and Amazon have pledged multi‑billion‑dollar investments tied to performance milestones.

If the round closes as anticipated, Anthropic will surpass OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation from its March funding. Both firms are expected to file for public listings this fall, setting the stage for a high‑profile market debut.

What it means The influx of capital signals strong investor confidence in Anthropic’s growth trajectory and its competitive positioning against OpenAI. A valuation above $900 billion could reshape funding benchmarks for AI startups and intensify the race for market share in generative AI services. Watch for the final terms of the round and the timing of Anthropic’s IPO filing, which will clarify the competitive landscape ahead of the fall market season.
